Banquet stuff

Hey girls....

Hope you are enjoying this nice sunny Saturday! I know we have been outside all day!

Anyways...I wanted to tell you all I was able to pick up the nice expresso/coffee line of stuff at Rite Aid this afternoon. It was 50% off and the total for EVERYTHING was only $11! I thought we could raffle it off at the banquet. This will give us a good 8 raffle items! The plates and mugs are in sets of 2 so I am thinking they are pretty nice raffle items! YEAH. Thanks Courtney for the suggestion!
After talking with Courtney, we also thought it would be a great idea to make a bunch of fudge as a "favor" for the evening. I have a SUPER easy recipe and I think we should all try and make a batch or two. All you do is combine a bag of melted chocolate chips with some sweetened condensed milk. Pat it in a baking dish and let cool! Cut it and serve. How much easier could it get! We can wrap it up in some of that plastic wrap and put a piece of tissue paper with some ribbon around it! WALLA!

Okay well bring your ideas to STEERING THIS THURSDAY! Don't forget we switched it due to the break this month....I know Faith and maybe Loren won't be there...anyone else?

May banquet

We are approaching our May banquet....can you believe it! We decided to NEVER EVER EVER go somewhere again so this year we are having it at the church. I figured we should probably start planning this, so this is what has already been discussed and what I need you all to help with. Know that NOTHING is set in stone and I am always open to suggestions.
  • It will be held on May 14th at 6:30 at the church
  • The theme will consist of coffee/latte/dessert bar (lets think of a creative name for this)
  • Rite Aid currently has a line of coffee/latte stuff that we are waiting to go on clearance so we can possible buy some for favors. We could also get some tea bags and mini coffees and create labels for them.
  • Everyone will bring a dessert to pass
  • I am assuming Joanie will speak and I will get double check with her once she returns
That being said, we need to create an invite for all the mom's and for MOPPET workers. It would be cute to put a coffee and saucer on these and make them pretty. This would fall under Amy's responsibilities I am thinking (don't worry I will get more details as it approaches). Amy would also be responsible for making a program.

Court and I will keep an eye out for the stuff at Rite Aid and we welcome any other ideas.

I guess that's it??? Am I forgetting anything???

On another note I just wanted to post the dates for steering for the remainder of the year...note that I did switch our April date!!!

Feb 19th: My house 7:00 (unless a Chittenango person want to host)
March 19th
APRIL 2nd....the reason I am changing this date is due to the break. I am realizing the evening steering just does work for some of you so lets do it this week.
May 7th: This is to finalize things for the banquet and do a little celebration for our steering team!!!

Just so we are all on the same page

I have touched base with each of you about this issue, but I wanted us all to be on the same page.

There is some talk about me starting MOPS at Eastern Hills. It has become very apparent to me that there is a huge need in the FM area for this and God has been "nudging" me to look into this. Right now the only thing that has been done is (as of Friday) there is a meeting set up sometime in December for me to talk with the director of family services about MOPS. So CLARIFICATION: Nothing has been started and even if they say, "lets do this", it wouldn't happen until next school year. I want you all to know this has NOTHING to do with Crossroads as a church or with any of you!!! This has been an EXTREMELY difficult decision for me. All I can say is that God is in control and has a plan for this. We have a great steering team this year and I want it to stay that way. So you all know, I am committed to MOPS at Crossroads 100 percent and want to see the year finish strong. I will inform you of any new information as I receive it.

If you have any questions or want to comment feel free to do so. Lets keep a positive attitude for the rest of the year. Know I will be in Charlotte next week and not on my computer so I cannot comment.

LOVE YOU ALL!!! Kara

Courtney brought up the point that we haven't talked about this much. OKAY..so here it goes. Lets meet at 6:30 at Joanies on Dec. 6th. We will each bring a dessert and a small gift...no more than $10. I am hoping you will all be thinking outside the box with your gifts...remember funny ones ARE allowed. Don't forget to bring your hubby along too. I haven't talked to Joanie much about this, but have a call into her. I will bring a yummy cheesecake!! Comment what you will bring...

Steering 11/13

Good steering meeting today girls. I feel like we tackled a problem head on...now lets see where it gets us.

Although we didn't spend too much time in prayer today, I would like for you all to continue to pray for each other! Here are the requests we had today.

Faith: Declan and his safety.
Cheryl: Stress with family and move of in-laws
Kara: Grandfather has a cardiologist appointment on Sat.
Amy: Rhett's job interview with Caz police today!

Also continue to pray for our MOPPETS situations!!!!

Discussion Items:

MOPPETS plan of action:
  • Andrea will be calling Morgan to see if she can help out with Carol and the toddlers
  • Loren will be stalking..opps I mean recruiting some woman from the church to help
  • Faith has already contacted some homeschoolers to see if they want to help
  • Kara has already contacted Caz college and is waiting to for a response from some students
  • THIS WEEK: there is one person who will hopefully sub for us and we are working on Morgan.
*A big thanks to you all for your combine efforts in solving this problem.

Schedule for rest of year:
  • 2/12: Love and Respect: Kara is contacting Elizabeth Snow from Eastern Hills to see if she can speak to us
  • 2/26: Craft Blitz
  • 3/12: Mental Health: Kara and Joceyln Rebisz will be talking about both adult and childhood depression, anxiety, and autism.
  • 3/26: Spa day: Court is contacting (i cannot remember the name of the place) someone about doing massages!, Kara will figure out the BOCES thing? Court will ask the MOPPETS worker about possibly doing massages, and I wasn't sure if Andrea was going to ask the Mary Kay lady from Crossroads??
Christmas Brunch:
  • Set up the night before will be somewhere around 5:30/6ish? Lori, Kara, Andrea, and Loren will be there
  • Lori is making a sign up sheet for the moms to bring food for that day
  • we will do an ornament exchange for a "craft"
  • Andrea and Kara will possibly make a craft for the workers?
  • Cindy/Courtney will get gift cards for the workers
Teen MOPS:
  • An email will go out talking about bringing donations to our next meetings.
  • Courtney will be bringing items
  • Loren will bring a box next week for donations

I am getting pretty excited about the Holiday season and hope all of you are too. I continue to pray for you each and hope you have a great week!!!!!

Lots of things

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your help this past weekend at Fall Council. We got some great feedback and it is because you girls worked your tails off! THANK YOU! Oh and I promise to not sign us up for it again!

Secondly: lets talk about Moppets. Obviously we are pretty short down there. We had 4 new moms today which threw us off somewhat, but we need to get some more workers. I am not sure who stopped helping out and for what reasons, but we need to find another solution. I contacted Cazenovia College and Morrisville College today and am waiting for a response. Let me know if you have any other ideas???

Thirdly: we need to start planning the X-mas brunch. Although I WAS there last year, I cannot remember all the details, so please help me fill them in. If I recall correctly, we ask everyone to bring food (Lori will have a sign up sheet for this) and then we provide lunch for the workers??? Was there a fee??? Did we order food from somewhere or do we want to?? My thinking is we keep it free. With the economy the way it is, we really should try and cut us stay at home moms a break. That being said, everyone would have to bring in some food. Another idea I had for that event is doing an ornament exchange! I know I did an invitation last year, but my computer crashed so I cannot get it.

We also need to find one more mom to help out during steering meetings. I will be putting an email out to the moms to see if anyone is interested again.

Lastly: Today's talk about teen MOPS lead to a discussion about moms bringing in some items for the teen moms instead of doing the operation x-mas child. Ideas???

Remember next Thursday is steering....i just wanted to start talking about these ideas so we don't have to rush next meeting.
